About the Event
As part of my Masters of Arts degree in Arts Administration I am required to complete a final project that encompasses much of what I have learned throughout my studies. To fulfill this requirement I plan to hold a charitable gallery exhibit and show entitled Women Waging the Way. The event will be held on May 8, 2015 at Woods Theatre on the Monmouth University campus because of the ties that both WAGE International and I have with the institution. The net profits will be donated to WAGE International.
The event focuses on an important issue that touches all individuals, equality. Women have made immense progress over the last century in regards to obtaining parity, but still today women face discrimination based on their gender. Women Waging the Way aims to foster the equality of all humans by showcasing artists of all gender and backgrounds along with art of young girls in India who are currently learning the importance of acceptance through the “Rainbow Program.” The Rainbow Program is a school in Loreto Sealdah, Kolkata, India that works to integrate girls of diverse socio-economic backgrounds and foster the common goal of breaking the cycle of poverty and empowerment through education.
Planning this exhibit, while allowing me to support a cause that I believe in and support, will also allow me to use the many skills I have gained through my classwork and internship as an Arts Administrations Masters candidate. I will plan, market, and execute the event and also have the opportunity to network with individuals both in and out of the arts administration field.
The event will take place on one night and will showcase fine art, theater, and music through two “acts.” All artwork will be displayed on easels in a semi-circle on the stage and will serve as a “backdrop” for Act 1. Act 1 will consist of performances by young artists who will present songs, skits, and other performances that focus on the theme of the night. During Act 2, attendees will be offered the opportunity to view the art up close and take part in a silent auction. There will be a mix of art from local artists that will be up for auction and artwork from children who are currently enrolled in the “Rainbow Program.”
To ensure the event is marketed effectively and efficiently a communications and promotions plan will be conducted. Electronic and print media will be employed including posters, postcards, invitations, emails, Facebook, and Weebly.
The event will be self-funded and therefore the net profits will be donated to WAGE International at the completion of the event.

About the coordinator
Hello! My name is Kelly Craig and I am planning, coordinating, holding, and evaluating Women Waging the Way. When determining what I wanted to do for my Final Project I knew I wanted to incorporate two of my passions, art and human equality. After weeks of brainstorming different ideas I selected an art exhibit that showcased several different types of art alongside the art of children who are currently participating in the Rainbow Program. I am very excited to partner with WAGE International and to be holding the event at Monmouth University, my alma mater. For more information about me, please visit my personal website.
